Post-Op

Ava's surgery went well. They took her back at 9:30 and she was in recovery by 11:30. There were no unexpected complications in removing the cataract from her right eye. The doctors and Nurses at Children's Hospial of Austin were great; they kept us informed and took great care of Ava and in making the procedure as painless as possible for all of us. However, pre-op and sitting and waiting was not easy for Cathy and I, we felt helpless. Luckily we had both of our parents there to help us out.


I'm glad that we're on our way to correcting Ava's vision and even though Ava doesn't seem to realize what has heppened to her, I do. When I went back to see her in recovery, it hit me. I won't try to describe it, let's just say that it was difficult to see my little baby like that: having been violated and now groggy and helpless with an eye shield on her face... It made me realize that there really is a special bond between parent and child.


But our princess is fine...she's home now for recovery and doing great with taking her medicine and eye drops and keeping her hands away from her eye. We have our post-op visit with Dr. Onan today at 4:15. I can't wait until her eye heals and we can remove the patch so that Ava can see her mommy and daddy clearly for the first time.
